From historic landmarks and industrial chic spaces to stunning outdoor settings and luxurious hotels, Detroit has something to offer for every couple. Trust me.

But trying to find the best wedding venues in Detroit can be a real challenge though. There are so many different things to think about and factors to consider for your wedding day. When planning my own wedding, the process quickly became overwhelming as I had to step into an event planner role on top of my day-to-day tasks and job.

In this comprehensive guide, I give you the rundown on considerations and a great list of awesome wedding venues to start your search (a few of which I’ve attended weddings at even). These are all things that I thought about and helped me plan the perfect day (which obviously still had it’s issues like our DJ getting ill the week of the wedding and us having to find a replacement). It’s best to start off with building a website for your wedding on Zola. That’s what we did and it was simple and easy.

When Choosing the Best Wedding Venues in Detroit, Consider:

  • Budget: Most important! How much are you willing to spend on the venue? This will help you narrow down your options before anything else. Trust me, make sure you know your budget before you get your heart set on something that is out of your financial means. Also, if your tighter on budget like we were do not go the a la carte route. I repeat haha. It may seem like the cheaper way to go because the venue price is not as high but you’ll end up most likely spending more money in the long-run. Go for a venue that has their own kitchen for a better venue/food price.
  • Size: Consider the size of your wedding and how much space you need. Make sure the venue can accommodate your guest list and desired partying that will surely commence after the ceremony.
  • Style: Think about the type of wedding you want and choose a venue that reflects your personal style. Do you prefer a rustic, industrial, or elegant setting?
  • Location: Consider the location of the venue and how difficult it will be for your guests to attend. Take into account travel time, parking, and any other accommodations that might need to be made.
  • Amenities: Determine which amenities are important to you, such as a dance floor, catering, and AV equipment. Is there a bar? Do you want a space for the DJ or a band to play?
  • Date and time: Be sure to book your venue well in advance, especially if you have a specific date in mind. A lot of venues are booked out for months or even years in advance. And remember, when planning the time, friends and families with children might not be able to stay late, so scheduling the time earlier could be helpful.
  • Reviews: Read reviews from other couples who have used the venue to get a sense of their experience. What things went wrong and how did the venue help fix those issues. Unexpected things are always going to happen. But how the venue manages those unfortunate mistakes makes all the difference.
  • Visit the venue: Once you’ve narrowed down your options, visit the venues in person to get a feel for the space and meet with the staff. Most venues are happy to schedule an appointment.
  • Trust your gut: Ultimately, choose a venue that feels right to you and your partner. Trust your instincts and go with the venue that you feel most comfortable with. You should be able to walk into the space and just feel overwhelming joy and excitement.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into some of these important ones…

Budget: What is the average cost of a wedding venue in Detroit?

The cost of a wedding venue in Detroit can vary significantly. It all depends on several factors, including:

  • Size and location: Venues in downtown Detroit or popular suburban areas tend to be more expensive than those in less central locations. So determine what is most important to you. If you need to make decisions based within your budget, you may have to consider a smaller venue or a larger venue in a less desired area.
  • Amenities: Venues with additional amenities, such as outdoor spaces, ballrooms, or catering services, will likely have higher costs.
  • Date and time: Weekdays and off-peak seasons typically offer more affordable rates compared to weekends and peak wedding months. But who all is coming and what time of year and day of the week will be easier for your guests to attend?
  • Seasonality: Prices may fluctuate based on the season. Popular wedding months like May, June, and October often command higher rates. But in the middle of summer a lot of people go on vacation, or in the middle of winter people tend to travel and visit family.

On average, (based on recent data) the cost of a wedding venue (only the venue not with everything else included) in Detroit ranges from $3,000 to $8,000. However, it’s essential to note that this is just a rough estimate. Actual costs can vary widely depending on your specific wants and preferences.

Size: How much space do you actually need?

While searching for the best wedding venues in Detroit, think about the size and style of your wedding.

  • Guest count: Estimate the number of guests you expect to attend your wedding. This will help you choose a venue with adequate space.
  • Who is attending?: Don’t forget that the venue needs to not only be large enough for people to relax and enjoy themselves for several hours. It needs to also accommodate mingling, dancing, kids running around, and definitely a few drunk people.

Style: Don’t forget, it’s YOUR special day.

When my husband and I sought a venue for our wedding, we saw a few and landed on one we both left rattling the many things we liked about it (including the price!).

For this choice, I honestly would not take into consideration opinions outside of you and your significant.

Date and time: Book for what’s best

A common question is “How far in advance should I book a wedding venue in Detroit?”

  • Book in advance: If you have a specific date in mind, be sure to book your venue well in advance. A lot of venues are booked out for months or even years. So don’t try to squeeze it in on a date that is a bit cheaper but harder for people to attend. It’s generally recommended to book a wedding venue in Detroit at least 12-18 months in advance. This gives you ample time to research options, compare prices, and secure the best date and time for you.
  • Popular venues: Many sought-after venues in Detroit book up quickly, especially during peak wedding seasons (May-October). Booking early ensures you have a wider selection of options.
  • Coordination and planning: A longer booking window allows you more time to coordinate with vendors, plan your wedding, and make necessary arrangements.
  • Negotiation: Booking early can give you more leverage in negotiating prices and terms with the venue. Just because the venue is free doesn’t mean your favorite caterer or DJ is.
  • Best for guests: And remember, when planning the time, friends and families with children might not be able to stay late, so scheduling the time earlier could be helpful. We did not allow anyone under 18 at our wedding (despite me loving everyone’s kids) so know that’s an option too.
