Detroit is full of nightlife venues that offer unique experiences, delicious cocktails/mocktails, and electrifying music artists. Check out some of our favorites below!
The Monarch Club
Perched atop the historic Metropolitan Building, The Monarch Club offers a blend of timeless elegance and modern sophistication. Its rooftop setting provides sweeping views of downtown Detroit, making it a perfect spot to unwind with a craft cocktail while soaking in the city’s skyline. Make reservations early here!
Spot Lite
Spot Lite in Detroit is a vibrant venue that blends art, music, and community in a unique and welcoming space. It’s become one of my favorite venues to visit. Located in the city’s Islandview neighborhood, Spot Lite serves as a bar, gallery, and record store by day and transforms into a lively nightclub and event space by night. It’s known for its eclectic programming, featuring everything from DJ sets and live music to art exhibitions and pop-up markets. With its creative atmosphere and commitment to local culture, Spot Lite has become a beloved hub for Detroit’s arts and nightlife scene.
Candy Bar
Nestled within the Siren Hotel, Candy Bar is a chic, intimate lounge adorned in plush pink hues and vintage décor. It’s a cozy retreat where you can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails in a setting that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.
Magic Stick
Magic Stick is a legendary music venue that has hosted countless iconic performances. With its vibrant atmosphere and rich history, it’s a cornerstone of Detroit’s live music scene. We’ve gone and see many DJs here and it’s a great vibe with so many neon lights, high-energy and a nice outdoor area to take a break.
The Ghost Bar At The Whitney
Housed in the historic Whitney mansion, The Ghost Bar exudes old-world charm and mystery. It’s an elegant spot to enjoy a drink while immersing yourself in Detroit’s storied past. Head to the top floor of the Whitney to access. The Whitney is also across from the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), so you can do multiple things in the same area.
The Russle Industrial Center
Once an automotive manufacturing hub, the Russell Industrial Center has transformed into a vibrant community for artists and entrepreneurs. Its expansive spaces now host studios, galleries, and events, embodying Detroit’s spirit of reinvention. Music events here feel very epic with how big the space is.
Royal Oak Music Theatre
This beautifully preserved 1920s venue in downtown Royal Oak continues to shine as a premier destination for live entertainment. From concerts to comedy shows, it offers a diverse lineup in an intimate setting. It also has tired standing areas which is great for getting a better view at shows for people of varying heights.
Wright & Company
Situated in a restored historic building, Wright & Company combines classic architecture with a modern menu. It’s a go-to spot for shared plates and inventive cocktails, all served in a stylish, welcoming environment. There is a corner booth at this place that I think is the “best spot in the city” to sit down with friends.
Lincoln Factory
A testament to Detroit’s industrial heritage, the Lincoln Factory has been repurposed into a dynamic space for creatives and innovators. Its raw, authentic atmosphere makes it a unique venue for events and collaborations. A great venue to see music artists as it’s spacious with cozy seating all around.
Sfumato
More than just a fragrance company, Sfumato offers an olfactory experience that blends art and science. Their handcrafted scents are inspired by the Renaissance painting technique, creating nuanced aromas that evoke emotion and memory. The cocktails they have represent the scents they sell. You’d think a cologne and a cocktail don’t mix well, but they make it work very well. It’s more of an experience.
Queens Bar Detroit
A favorite downtown hangout, Queens Bar offers a laid-back vibe with a touch of sophistication. It’s the perfect place to grab a drink, catch up with friends, and enjoy the heartbeat of the city.
Detroit Barcade
Combining a love for classic arcade games and craft beer, Detroit Barcade is a nostalgic playground for adults. With a rotating selection of local brews and vintage games, it’s a fun, casual spot to relive your childhood. This place has the most games of any barcade in the city.
Standby
Tucked away in an alley, Standby is a hidden gem known for its innovative cocktails and intimate ambiance. The menu is ever-evolving, offering unique flavors that surprise and delight. It feels upscale, but the vibe is casual and laid-back with booming music (at night at least).
Kampers
Located at the top of the Book Tower, Kampers offers an indoor/outdoor (rooftop) vibe packed with a lot of class. Make reservations extra early here as they fill up quickly (I set a reminder for the first day future reservations open up).
Deluxx Fluxx
An immersive art and music venue, Deluxx Fluxx is a sensory wonderland. With its neon-lit interiors and eclectic performances, it captures the creative energy that defines Detroit. They also have some arcade games! This place usually has a line around the block to get their early if you want to avoid that.
Temple Bar
Temple Bar in Detroit is one of those rare places that feels like a well-kept secret, even though it’s been around forever. Tucked away just off Cass Corridor, it’s dimly lit, with a retro charm that hasn’t been fussed with—red lighting, low ceilings, a jukebox that matters. The drinks are cheap, the crowd is eclectic, and there’s a kind of raw honesty in the air that you don’t find in trendier spots. Whether you’re a regular or just wandering in, Temple feels like it’s letting you in on something real.
