My husband and I love a lot of different foods so we venture to the many restaurants around Detroit. The area is full of food from around the world and we’ve definitely found a few of our favorites along way that we’d like to share with anyone visiting or looking for a good reco.
Hiroki-San
Hiroki-san in Detroit is an amazing Japanese restaurant true gem, perfect for special occasions or just treating yourself to something extraordinary. I went here for a birthday celebration, and it was such a lovely experience from start to finish. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a touch of sophistication that sets the tone for a memorable evening. We treated ourselves to the Wagyu steak, and it did not disappoint—it was perfectly cooked, melting in the mouth with every bite, and bursting with flavor. The staff were attentive and made the whole experience even more delightful. If you’re looking for a place to indulge, Hiroki-san is a must-visit.
Olin
Olin in Detroit is a fantastic spot to meet up with friends and enjoy great food in a lively atmosphere. The space has a warm, modern decor vibe that makes it perfect for catching up over a meal. Every time I go, I make sure to order the focaccia bread—it’s absolutely my favorite. It’s perfectly fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside, and the flavors are incredible. Whether you’re there for drinks, small plates, or a full dinner, Olin never disappoints.
Johnny Noodle King
Johnny Noodle King in Detroit is my husband’s and my go-to spot whenever we’re craving casual vibes and delicious ramen. The atmosphere is laid-back yet vibrant, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a hearty meal. Their ramen bowls are packed with flavor, and there’s always something new to try. In the summer, the rooftop is open, offering a fantastic view of the Ambassador Bridge—it’s such a unique and scenic spot to enjoy your meal. Whether we’re dining inside or soaking up the views outside, Johnny Noodle King always hits the spot.

We did a full feature on Johnny here if you want to check it out.
Supergeil
Such amazing vibes and Mediterranean-inspired food here. Supergeil in Detroit is an absolute must-visit, especially if you’re into creative dishes with big flavors. The vibe is cool and eclectic, making it a great spot for a fun night out. But let me tell you—the deviled eggs here are hands-down the best you’ll ever have. They’re perfectly balanced with just the right amount of creaminess and a touch of something special that makes them unforgettable. Whether you’re stopping by for small plates, cocktails, or the full experience, Supergeil never disappoints.

Takoi
Takoi in Detroit is such a cool spot and always booked with reservations —it has this underground, neon vibe that feels edgy and fun, with great music playing that really sets the mood. The whole atmosphere is unlike anywhere else, making it perfect for a unique night out. The food is just as incredible as the ambiance. I did the tasting menu when I visited, and it was such a great decision. I got to try so many of their entrées, and every single one either met or totally surpassed my expectations.

From the fresh pasta to the wood-fired pizzas, you can taste the quality and care in every dish. It’s the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem, whether you’re there for a casual meal or a special occasion.
Mad Nice
Mad Nice in Detroit is a feast for both the eyes and the palate, and if your favorite color is pink, this place is a dream come true. The decor is vibrant and chic, with stunning pink accents that make the whole space feel fun and trendy. It’s the kind of restaurant where every detail, from the design to the dishes, feels thoughtfully curated. The food is just as impressive as the ambiance, with a menu full of creative and flavorful options that elevate the dining experience. It’s a spot that’s perfect for a memorable meal or even just snapping a few Instagram-worthy photos!

Baobab Fare
Baobab Fare in Detroit is an absolute gem, serving up East African food. Every dish is packed with rich, savory flavors that make each bite feel like a warm hug. The spices and seasonings are perfectly balanced, and you can tell how much care goes into preparing the food on every plate. The atmosphere is welcoming and vibrant, which only adds to the experience. Whether it’s your first time trying East African cuisine or you’re already a fan, Baobab Fare is a must-visit—I always leave craving more!
The Highlands
The Eagle Detroit (Midtown)
The Eagle Midtown in Detroit is one of my favorite spots for brunch, especially if you’re craving some great soul food. The atmosphere is casual and cozy, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a hearty meal with friends or family. Their fried chicken, collard greens and sweet potato skillet are standout dishes, and everything from the grits to the cornbread is made with such delicious, flavorful care. It’s the kind of place that feels comforting and satisfying every time, and the portions are always generous. If you’re in the mood for soul food and a chill brunch vibe, The Eagle in Midtown (not to be confused with The Eagle Bar up wor definitely hits the mark.
