When driving down Fort St. from downtown Detroit you’ll come across a bright, red building with a bowl of “noodles” displayed on the roof. Pull over to experience one of the best restaurants in Detroit.

When it comes to the food at JNK, you really can’t go wrong (unless I guess you order a spicy dish and you can’t handle the heat). When my fiancé and I go, we like to start with the Gyoza appetizer typically. We recently began trying their other appetizers and the Inari Bao Buns and Chicken Karaage are also our favorites.

For the ramen (Johnny’s star of the show), I always gravitate toward Tonkotsu. It has a traditional pork broth, juicy pork belly, egg, bean sprouts, black garlic oil (hold on I’m drolling), and of course ramen noodles. My fiancé likes things spicy so he always gets the Red Curry noodles and absolutely loves it. I took my Mom to JNK once and she ordered the Mushroom Dashi ramen. This dish blew me away with its smell and taste. For those who love anything with truffle oil, this will be your go-to.

I feel the energy and ambiance are really what set JNK apart from other restaurants in Metro Detroit. It feels like “the cool spot to be” and the staff could not be friendlier.

To make it even cooler, in Spring/Summer 2022 Johnny Noodle King (or JNK) will be opening its new roof patio. The patio has an AMAZING view of the Ambassador Bridge (it’s such a vibe) especially at night. I got a sneak peek of the space and it’s sure to be a great Summer hangout spot for everyone around the city.

They don’t take reservations but you can dine-in or get your food to go by ordering on their website. You can also follow them on Instagram for some delicious food content.
